11th Annual Denver Classic

11th Annual STAMP 14 Cutout

The summer BADCO classic is back and this time we are focusing on making this tournament accessible to beginners, ladies and juniors. We will have discounted entry fees, a beginners clinic with 4 time Colorado State Champion Joe Rovere Friday Night as well as different course layouts for beginners, ladies and junior divisions. We will be using the Green Valley Ranch course near 40th and Tower Road by the airport on Saturday and then the Badlands course at Camenisch Park on Sunday. Green Valley Ranch is a great new course that will have plenty Out-of-Bounds areas to challenge the experienced players, but open enough to not intimidate beginners, ladies and juniors. Players packages for all amateur divisions will include at least a custom tournament stamped disc and a personal professional photograph by Conrad Meyer.

Online Registration is available here.

SPONSORS SO FAR:
Innova Discs
B.C. Surf and Sport
Hyland Hills Park and Recreation District
Lil Ceasars Pizza

IMPORTANT NOTE: We can’t have any money change hands at the Green Valley Ranch course as part of the park regulations. Therefor we will not have ANY day-of registrations at all! Please register for your division and any Ace Pool, WFDF Accuracy Contest and Clinic options through the Online Registration before the cutoff midnight 11:59pm Wednesday August 13, 2014.

Here is the tentative schedule as of now.

Friday, August 15, 2014: random draw doubles as well as disc golf beginners clinic given by 4 time Colorado State Champion Joe Rovere at Green Valley Ranch DGC

Saturday, August 16, 2014: 1st and 2nd Rounds of 18 holes each round at Green Valley Ranch DGC with lunch break in between. There are a lot of restaurants close by around 35th and Tower Road.

Sunday, August 17, 2014: 3rd Round of 27 holes at the Badlands DGC at Camenisch Park.

We’re working on enhancing the fun of a tournament with a separate Accuracy competition setup to WFDF standards using Zephyr discs. Hoping to have a mini golf course if we can find enough mini baskets. We will probably have some sort of barbecue at Badlands Sunday afternoon, as well as a Ring-of-Fire where everybody putts at once in a 30ft circle around one basket for prizes. We will probably have a Safari Final9 for those divisions that want to play it, which is a huge course setup for gigantic big throws, like tee 4 to basket 7 at Badlands for example. Feel free to leave a comment below or email mattcdsa@gmail.com with any questions.

Format: Two rounds of 18 holes, one throw per hole per player.

Course layout: Holes are generally between 180 and 250 feet (55 to 75 meters).

Entry fee: $25

Player package: Guaranteed to be at least twice the value of your entry fee! The 2012 player pack included two identical Discraft prototype discs made especially for Ace Race, plus a SuperColor mini, sunglasses, a sticker and a sweet water bottle for every player. More than a $50 value!

Rules of play: Players are required to use the player package discs, and only these discs. If a disc is lost, the player has the option of using the second disc from the package. Only one throw per player per hole. All players should have their own scorecards and mark “A” for aces (a hole-in-one) and “M” for holes on which they hit metal.

After all players in the group have thrown, discs are picked up and the group moves directly to the next tee. Players keep their scorecards for round two, using the next line on the card to record the round. The player with the most aces after 36 holes is declared the winner. In case of ties, the number of metal hits is used as a tie breaker. If a tie persists, a closest to the pin contest is then used to determine the event winner.

Note: Double Ace Race in full as of today. 9/4/2013 thanks to all who signed up.

Permits for Events

BY Chainz

I don’t know if everyone realizes it or not, but whenever you hold an event at a disc golf course in a public park you need to get the proper permit.
If you don’t, you are putting the course at risk of being pulled !
These courses are hard enough to get and to get them paid for.
So no matter whether it is a tournament or a fundraiser or a charity event you do need to follow park rules.
Most times if you tell the park that it is for charity it may not cost you anything.
I know that if you call Ronnie when you are putting on an event at Badlands, White Hawk, Paco, or any of the other Badco courses he will help you get what you need and will try to get it at no cost.
So, in conclusion please help us to maintain a good relationship with Parks and Rec.
Do things the right way and everyone will benefit.

King of The Mountain on Thunder Mountain / Story and Results

The third annual King of the Mountain fundraiser was a great success in my opinion. We had a great group of people come out to support the camp and the course. The Saturday morning doubles was a blast with only a 1 stroke difference determining the winners with a 6, and three groups had a tie with 5. Ronnie Ross presented the first place winners Ron Whitehead & Brett Marshall with their trophies and money. Both Ron and Brett donated their winnings back to the camp and course. There were 9 teams in all and the round took 4 and half hours to play.

There were 4 bands playing great music all day. Which could be heard all across the mountainside. Americorps came up to help for the day, which was a blessing. You might recall that BADCO had done a fundraiser for Americorps last year, at the City of Cuernavaca park in downtown Denver for the Hunger Fling.

After, and during, the doubles match the King of the Mountain tournament was going strong with groups of people teeing off all day long. Last years winner (name) won this year as well with an amazing 8 in the Advanced division, and with a 2 stroke handicap it was a 10 that took the trophy. The only Ace on the day belonged to Brett Stipitich He was the winner of the Tag Tournament as well and went home with a new disc bag for the Ace, tag #3, and a trophy.

All of the BADCO members that were in attendance were treated to a beautiful lodge to stay in and delicious food prepared by Ronnies wife, Tommie Ross. There were 3 players parties going on all at once, two at campsites and one at the lodge. Rod Baca graced the upper camp fire circle with some magnificent drum playing and singing of Native American song. Mark Steputis brother David also joined in with some drum playing and his friend Richard was on the guitar. Now this was camping at its finest!

All in all the excellent weather provided for a great tournament and a wonderful time at night, with great people coming in from all over the state. This, in my opinion, is what disc golf is all about; fun; friends; and doing good for others in the process. So I thank each and every one who took the time to come out and support a great cause and help make what will soon be the best course in the state, if not the country.

Check out all the great event photos
